Mater Dei beats Reitz, 28-21


In the battle of unbeatens at the Bowl, the Mighty Panthers came up short, falling 28-21 to their West Side rival, Mater Dei.

Reitz fell to 8-1 overall and finished 6-1 and 5-1 in the SIAC and city races. They’ll head to Seymour (2-7) next week to start Sectional 24.

Mater Dei improved to 9-0 overall, their second straight undefeated regular season. The Wildcats won the city & SIAC championships with 5-0 & 6-0 marks, respectively, and also retained the West Side Nut Club Trophy. Mater Dei will face Forest Park (1-8) at Reitz Bowl next Friday.

#RFFThis is the game that everyone’s been anticipating! It’s a battle of undefeateds as the Mighty Panthers “travel” to Reitz Bowl to take on the Mater Dei Wildcats.

The winner of this game will gain three titles: The SIAC, city and West Side Nut Club Championship. Both Reitz and Mater Dei are 8-0 overall, 6-0 in the SIAC and 5-0 in the city.

The Panthers lead the series, 44-18. Coach Hape is 16-4 overall and 0-1 against the Wildcats. Mater Dei head coach Mike Goebel is 178-49 overall and 8-9 against Reitz.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
