Most Offensive Team in Reitz Football history is 2003

2003 Most Offensive

The most offensive team in Reitz Football history was not a state champion. They didn’t even win semi-state. Or regional, for that matter.

But that’s part of what makes 2003 so fantastic. They scored an average of 45.31 points, almost more than four more per game than any other Panther team in school history, AND they did it in only 13 games.

Think about it…some teams played 14 or 15 games and still didn’t score more on average than the 2003 squad.

With 589 total points, they were only eight behind 2007’s team that scored the most points in a single season in school history.

Coach John Hart, in his third year, would guide the Panthers to a No. 1 ranking before being upset, 31-20, by Center Grove in the Class 5A Regional Championship.

They had four players named to all-state (Zach Barrett, Andy Deig, Nick Hart and Daniel Woods). Deig and Hart are also members of the Reitz Football Hall of Fame.

In 2003, Deig set the single-season Panther record for tackles (209). Hart also set single-season records for passing yards (1,797), longest touchdown pass (72 yards) and passing touchdowns (27), although all three records have subsequently been broken.

  • note: team records are only available for 1992-99, 2002-10 and 13-present; please let us know if you have any years that are missing

581 points in 14 games make 2010 No. 2 Most Offensive Team in Reitz Football History

2010 Most Offensive

Often overshadowed by the 2007 and 2009 state championship teams, the 2010 Panthers had an incredible run that cannot be ignored.

They scored 581 points in 14 games to average 41.5 points per game. The Panthers won city and SIAC championships and finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in every poll. Reitz went on to win sectional and regional titles before falling to eventual state champion, Indianapolis Cathedral, 56-28, in the semi-state game.

The Panthers had five all-state players, including Ke’Andre Vaughn and Matt McIntosh, who shared the team scoring title with 84 points.

Vote for the ReitzFootball.com 2015 Player of the Year

ReitzFootball.com is pleased to announce the voting for the MyPantherTees.com Player of the Year is now online!

The initial voting was taken down shortly after it went live due to a little controversy. However, one of the coaches suggested we determine the finalists using those honored on the 2015 Team Awards (the team MVP’s and position players of the year, minus the most improved players).

We’ve taken his suggestion and have done just that. These finalists were picked by the players and coaches themselves, so there should be no question as to their merit as a finalist.

In the past, the vote was for the Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. Last year a Most Valuable Player award was added. However, this year only one individual will be selected, and he will be named the 2015 Player of the Year.

The voting will be online until this Thursdsay, Dec. 10.

Congratulations to all these fine players and the entire football team on an exciting, fun season.
