Reitz vs. Mater Dei Rivalry Selected as One of the Best for 2013

Block R     mD

The Reitz vs Mater Dei rivalry has been selected as one of the top football rivalries for 2013. The second annual Best High School Football Rivalry competition begins Nov. 18, and this time, there is even more competition.

USA TODAY High School Sports selected five high school football rivalries in each state and Washington, D.C. after more than a month of conversations with local media and other state/school officials with high school football expertise. From there, the fans will decide which rivalry emerges from a list of 255 – more than 100 more rivalries overall than a year ago.

This year’s best rivalry competition will end Dec. 18 after three rounds of voting. The 51 state winners – each state plus D.C. – advance to one of eight regionals. The winners of the eight regions, along with two wild cards, move onto a final round of 10.

The winning rivalry receives a cash price to be split evenly between the two schools, with other cash prizes going to all of the national finalists.

Contest Details:
USA TODAY High School Sports begins its Best High School Football Rivalry competition at 12 p.m. ET Monday, Nov. 18 with 255 coaches – five per state and Washington D.C. – in the state round, which ends at 12 p.m. ET Nov. 27. The 51 winners will advance to the second round, where they will be divided among eight regions. The regional round will begin at 12 p.m. ET Dec. 2 and ends at 12 p.m. ET Dec. 10. Reitz Football Helping to Spread Christmas Cheer

OCC

The Reitz football team will be helping children from around the world enjoy the holiday season by participating in Operation Christmas Child.  Coach Hape  states, “Having our coaches and players get involved with organizations such as Samaritans Purse is something I feel is an important part of being a well-rounded individual.   It is important to get involved in our local community as well as outside our community to really understand how blessed we are.”

Since 1993, more than 100 million boys and girls in over 130 countries have experienced God’s love through the power of simple shoebox gifts from Operation Christmas Child. Samaritan’s Purse works with local organizations to deliver the gifts and spread peace and joy to those less fortunate.

Jasper 17, Reitz 9: Week 12 GameDay Central presented by Tracy Zeller Jewelry

Recap

Reitz put up a strong effort, but came up short in Friday night’s Class 4A Sectional 24 Championship game against Jasper, 17-9.

Despite a 1-2 start, the Mighty Panthers and first-year head coach Andy Hape put together a great season and finished 8-4.

Jasper improved to 11-1 and will face Columbus East (12-0), led by former Reitz coach Bob Gaddis, this Friday in a regional championship game.

Preview

Reitz has developed quite a postseason rivalry with Jasper, facing the Wildcats in five of the last six years. The Panthers won last year’s match-up, 31-30, and are 5-2 overall against Jasper all-time. The next chapter in this series will continue tonight at Jasper, when the Wildcats, at 10-1 and ranked No. 6 in Class 4A, host Reitz (8-3).

Reitz 49, Silver Creek 15: Week 11 GameDay Central presented by Tracy Zeller Jewelry

Recap

Reitz took a big lead early and never looked back Friday night, defeating the Dragons, 49-15. Silver Creek finished 4-7 while Reitz improved to 8-3. The Panthers will travel to Jasper this Friday night to take on the Wildcats for the Class 4A Sectional 24 Championship.

Preview

Reitz will face Silver Creek for a berth in the sectional finals tonight. The Dragons won their first-ever playoff game last week and were scheduled to host a second-round game, but because of limited facilities, the IHSAA ruled that they could not and the game has been moved to Reitz Bowl.

This will be the first meeting between the schools.
